Ruling regarding adverse inferences being correctly drawn

Case Law 
 In the case of R v Singh 2024 it was held that a robbery conviction was safe where the judge was correct to allow adverse inferences to be drawn and the judge's summing-up and directions had been correct and adequate.

New offences of influencing voters at polling booths

Legal Update

 On 2 May 2024, section 1 of the Ballot Secrecy Act 2023 was brought into force. This inserts section 62C into the Representation of the People Act 1983 which makes it a summary offence to intend to influence a person from voting in a particular way or refraining from voting.

‘Terrorgram collective’ proscribed under the Terrorism Act 2000

Legal Update

 As from 26 April 2024, the Terrorgram collective has been added to the list of proscribed organisations under Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000. The Terrorgram collective is an online transnational network of extreme right-wing terrorists who produce and disseminate violent propaganda with the aim of radicalising readers and encouraging individuals to commit acts of terrorism.
